UK Holiday Tips Getting Away for Less
The UK boasts a wide variety of cultures and landscapes, and its relatively small size means that nothing is usually more than a day away. For this reason, many Britons are now opting to holiday at home rather than abroad, thanks to an improving climate and the money-saving potential of holidaying without flying overseas. There are several ideas of what a “typical” UK holiday includes – these are some of the top options to consider.
Seaside
The English seaside holiday is a well-established favourite for most UK residents. Think pebble beaches, ice cream, Punch and Judy puppet shows and, of course, donkey rides along the beach, and you’ve got a good idea of what you’re in for. However, as well as the tourist hotspots of areas like Blackpool and Weymouth, there are some trendy beach destinations too – head to Brighton for beautiful beaches, great shopping opportunities and an eclectic nightlife.
Accommodation: A classic English beach holiday isn’t complete without a stay in a traditional B&B. They’re cheap, cheerful and usually easy to find on the seafront.
Countryside
The UK’s countryside offers some truly stunning areas of natural beauty, from the Scottish Highlands to Dartmoor National Park. Take a walk over the dales and downs, head through woodland and forests or discover the rocky, mountainous landscape of the north. Pick up a National Trust membership and explore country manors, or simply head out along the nearest footpath for an afternoon full of surprises, wherever in the UK you are.
Accommodation: Settle into country life with a rented cottage – Rent My Cottage offer a selection across the UK, allowing you to enjoy the peace and quiet of rural Britain.
City break
The cities of the UK are bursting with history and culture, from medieval architecture to museums and art galleries dedicated to the development of the four countries that make up the state. In the north, you’ll find yourself immersed in England’s mining history, while the prosperous south boasts a wealth of royal attractions. Scotland, Wales and Northern Island offer very different pasts to discover, each with their own cultural spin. This alongside classic British pubs, tea shops and trendy designer outlets – especially in London – makes the UK a very fashionable place to experience city living.
Accommodation: Save up and splash out on a luxury hotel in a central location for an unforgettable city break. If you’re looking to get away, consider a nice spot slightly more remote but not too far so you can still take as any day trips as you wish to enjoy the city or just stock up on essentials.
